Crap, crap and more crap

Well I have good news. The lessons I deliver in math are no longer inappropriate according to that parent...they are (ready for this???) CRAP!

I think my jaw might have fallen open when she said that - I can't be for sure. But by the millionth time it was closed. She would swing her arms about as she said it. I didn't say much throughout the meeting. Just a few times to to politely in a discreet way tell her that her daughter is lying and to let her know I'm not the previous teacher. She kept saying well Mr. So and so said this and he did this and blah blah blah. I finally said "I'm not Mr. So & So and Mr. So & So is gone. Apparently I have a very different teaching style and it's too bad you don't agree with it." The principal on the other hand had plenty to say to her and for the most part defended me quite well (there were a few things I was a little miffed about but that's life and bosses).

I try my hardest not to swear on my blog but man what a BITCH!!! A couple times I wanted to laugh, a couple more times I wanted to hit her and more than a couple times I wanted to SCREAM at her that her daughter is a liar - and by the looks of things the apple didn't fall far from the tree.

She also said that if her daughter does not place in the 7th grade math class that she'll...she'll...she'll - go to the District office. It was humerous hearing her stumble over it. I was like go on ahead - hell can we carpool??

And here I was all worried about my appearance because she is a lawyer. When I walked in I felt as if I walked onto the set of "Cops". You know that show on TV that shows how the other side (white trash) lives??? She looked sloppy with her unkept clothes and greasy hair. I was almost angry that here I was suffering in my brown crocodile heels. But when it was all done I knew I was the better person - and definitely more put together.

OH and get this - she said that the piece of CRAP that her daughter handed in IS her daughter's best work. I was like whew - she has a lot to learn. All through life you are judged on your appearance and the appearance of things you present to the world - even on crappy projects that your teacher assigns. But as I said the apple barely fell off the branch with these two.

Going to school today was difficult - part of me wanted to say forget this CRAP. But my regular class kids need me and I think part of me needs them. But the math kids - well I could give them up.

I could fill up this whole blog on what this mom said in this meeting but I'll spare you all the details (unless of course I think of something else that just shocked the CRAP out of me).

Also according to this mom - reading and writing has no place in math (she was HORRIFIED that I had the absolute nerve to read a book to my class that went along with a lesson). I'm so glad I spent all this time in school to learn best teaching practices when the whole time I could have just gone to her. The money I wasted....

Four more months - and counting.

Love,

Katie

Long time - I know

Wow - who knew this blog still existed??? Sorry to all my loyal readers, I know you've been dying to know what's going on in my life.

(Sadly there was only a few of you and I'm exagerating by even saying a few)

Well school is going well - the 17 days off we had for break was very nice. However, Chris and I spent 10 of those days basking in the clouds of Little Falls, Minnesota. The sun didn't peak it's head out once. It got depressing by day 3...yet at the same time it was good to see family again. I haven't been back there in 2 years so it was nice to be back.

I ended up driving in a blizzard from hell in the middle of no where. It was so scary I didn't know what to do. Thought about turning around a 1/2 dozen times but I was too scared to do that. I just thought back to my driving days in Chicago...seems so long ago.

We even toasted in the New Year up in Minnesota. It was cold.

But when I got back it was back to work...I'm a crazy workaholic. I have decided why my job is so difficult for me right now. Because I haven't developed a system. For instance, back at my old job when I was doing the Catering Mgr. stuff I could have my work done in about 2 hours. So that gave me 6.5 hours to do whatever I wanted. That included talking with co-workers, making Starbuck runs and overall complaining about how incompetent everyone was (it was never me - always everyone else). Oh and bitching about clients. But at school I haven't developed that system yet. It takes me 10 hours a day to get my work done and I'm still behind. However, improvements are being made and I'm sure by May 25 I'll be all set. Oh - we're done with school on May 26. :-(

A big shout out to Chris who came in over the weekend and helped me out. He alphabetized books in my library and stuffed report cards. What a guy!!!! A few weeks ago he even put up a bulletin board for me. It was so funny - it took him like 2 hours to do the board because every letter had to be straight. I was once like that...I got over that really quick. It's nice to see someone do it though. I will admit - I have the nicest, straightest bulletin board out there!!!!

So those of you who remember that horrendous parent raise your hand. All of you damn hands better be up because she was awful!!!! How could you forget??? I couldn't. Anyway her child handed in a crap project that was only halfway completed. Missing work and crap project brought her grade down to a low C-. Mom now wants to meet with me and the principle. BUT that isn't the kicker - it's the way she demanded an meeting all without even giving me the common courtesy to call me by my name. It just says something like "I would like to schedule a meeting with you and (Principle's name) for Wed. 1/18."

Doesn't say hello or anything. And we wonder why the kids are rude - they learn from mom and dad. I felt like replying back saying "Hey - I'm busy that day" but decided against it. Instead I got all of my ducks in a row and am almost looking forward to meeting this lady. I see it this way. I am not some kids fresh out of college. This is technically my 2nd career. If I wanted I could go back to the hotel industry and make some damn good money any day. But NO - I busted my ass to get where I am and I am not about to let some rude parent make me change my mind. So bring it on.

Well it feels good to get that out. I promise I'll try to stay more up to date on this thing. If you want to see my class webpage it is at www.kyrene.org/staff/kjensen

Remember what is said on the blog stays on the blog.

Much love,

Katie

P.S. Congratulations to Mike and Shannon on welcoming their 4th child into the world. (Which means congratulations to me Aunty Katie!!!! I now have a third nephew named Adam! And he is sooooooo adorable! Life is good)
