Flu, Fieldtrip, dentist, evacuation, more flu, stove issues and lockdown...

I can easily say this has been one of the most longest weeks of my life. First, it started off with last week with Chris being sick for the entire week and me finally catching it Sunday evening. However, being the trooper and dedicated teacher I am I went to work anyway on Monday. Okay - the real reason being that we had our fieldtrip Monday and it's against the rules to call in on a field trip day. So off we go to the IMAX theater - I'm drugged up and my kids are crazy. After the IMAX, we ended up going to a park for a couple hours. It was one heck of a day but not over for me...

I leave immediately after school to go see the dentist. I've been having a dull pain on my right side so I figured I'd better go see him. Since my new insurance doesn't cover my old dentist I had to pick a new one. This guy was recommended by a lady at work. Turns out he is really nice but by the time I leave I'm not sure if I'm more upset that this man has told me that not only do I have to change my high in sugar diet (including stopping with the Tall Mocha Frapaccinos from Starbucks) but that I also should do some sort of "activity" like running or something. (Yes he is my dentist not my nutritionist). Mind you, I had no energy to lie to the man. I was completely honest about what I do and don't eat and the amount of physical activity I do. By the time I leave, I have an "Are You a Sugar Junkie" pamphlet and a proposed dentist bill that is telling me I will only owe him $1,500 out of MY pocket with my next two visits. This is just Monday.

On Wednesday, we had our scheduled evacuation in which the entire school needs to leave campus and walk a little over a half of mile away. This is a practice run just in case we ever have a bomb threat or something along those lines. Now walking a half mile isn't far but you try doing it with a bunch of 5th graders who complain the whole way that they are tired, have to go to the bathroom and are thirsty. Mean while, I am silently suffering as I'm still sick with the flu.

Thursday is a day just like any other except that I wake up with the world's most horrendous headache. I can't even do my hair it hurts so bad. I knew exactly what it was from - my lack of Mocha Fraps from Starbucks. Dentist be damned I stopped in and got one - the headache was gone within 20 minutes. On top of that, Chris and I have been having issues with our stove. Everytime we try to cook something in it we have to continue running back and forth between the breaker box and to flip the breaker. We don't know why and have put in numerous complaints. They have come and "fixed" it a few times. Seems to me like it's STILL NOT FIXED!!! So, with the flu getting the best of me, I call and leave one of the world's bitchest messages for our apartment people.

Today, started out great. I had my day all planned out - still not feeling the best but heck it's Friday. Who cares? Well at 10:25am right as my class and I are about to go to computer lab the principal comes over the speaker and tells the school we are in a lockdown. Lock all the doors, close the skylights and turn off the lights and get the kids under their desks. We remain this way for about 20 minutes than at which time we are told to go ahead and teach but we are still in lockdown. Teach? Teach what? it's freaking lunch time. Lunch time comes and goes and finally we are allowed to be escorted down to the cafeteria to get lunch and go the the bathroom and than right back to the classroom we go to enjoy our lunches. We were under lockdown for 3.5 hours. The longest 3.5 hours of my life!!! By the time the bell rang at 2:35pm, I felt as if my head was going to explode. Still feeling sick, I left about 20 minutes after my kids. Later I find out the people who robbed the bank - which was the reason for our lockdown were actually from L.A. They rented a car and drove all the way to Phoenix to rob a bank. With no regards to what teacher's day they would throw completely off. Evil people.

It is now Saturday. I am still sick and thinking about how the next three of my Saturdays I will be spending at conferences for school.
