Cookies....are they safe?

Is that possible? I haven't posted in almost 3 months? My apologies to those of you who are die hard fans.....come on - I know there has to be at least one of you who is!

Anyway, the school year is coming to its midpoint. Thank god!!! Who would have thought in the beginning of the year that I would have had a crazy bipolar kid (whose mom thinks he will possibly hurt me one day) and a kid who bakes me cookies?!?

Yep, you read me right. A kid who baked me cookies. Was I suspicious? You betcha. Actually the boy who baked them is really a sweet kid...never the type I would worry about. But as he handed me a gift bag with cookies in a sandwich bag I had a flash back. It took me back to a time when myself and a friend (who shall remain nameless, as I must protect the guilty) were in a kitchen baking cookies for a teacher ourselves. It was 6th grade and Mrs. Preucil was the meanest teacher that ever lived. So, we thought it would be funny to make her some cookies with some extra ingredients in them. A little bit of Mrs. Dash and Garlic salt wouldn't hurt anyone, right?

Wrong. It hurt me that was for sure. I think I was grounded for like two months or something and I still remember laying in bed crying thinking the world was sooooo cruel the night my parents found out.

The kicker? She never even ate the cookies. They smelled funny so she threw them away.

So here I am sitting at my desk eyeing the cute little bag with cookies in them, thinking to myself "what did I ever do to you kid?". So I asked him. "Did you bake these cookies?"

"Yes" was his reply. Sounded innocent enough but one can never be too certain.

"Are they safe to eat?" I asked with a hint of humor. You see I had to add that humor so he wouldn't see right through me. So he wouldn't see in my eyes that I once baked cookies too. Part of me wanted to break down and tell him everything but I couldn't. After all - I am a teacher and teachers DO NOT participate in evil cookie plots.

Well, I ended up eating a cookie. Call me an idiot but how can one resist the sweet temptation of cookies??? I cannot.

However, if crazy kid ever bakes me anything, that stuff is going straight to the lab for testing.

I also participated in a bit of an e-mail exchange at work. You know, where people e-mail their thoughts on things. Well dammit all if I didn't get upset at what one of the people wrote and I replied back that we as educators not only have the responsibility to teach these kids the curriculum objectives but also to make these kids accountable. Because life has rules and if you don't play by the rules there are consequences. I spoke my peace.

But now I keep checking my e-mail every 5 minutes to see if anyone has replied back. Oh well.

I'm not feeling well....is it the flu? The e-mail? Or....(doom music playing) the cookies? I'll tell Chris the student's name just in case I get sick and can't talk.

Love you all.

Merry Christmas!!!
